When the pandemic lockdown began, life was hard for all of us and we all sort some sort of outlet for our feelings and frustrations. One of my outlets was designing a t-shirt for myself.
I designed the first Communitee ("You're on mute") for myself to wear during video calls. When other people on those calls wanted to know where they could get one too, I collaborated with the wonderful team at Das T-Shirt Automat to build this little online store so people could order their own "You're on mute" tee. Then things kinda escalated! Now there are Communitees about politics, the environment, the pandemic, tech, and daily life in this very weird world.
So far (mid-2023) Communitees has raised more than $15,000 for the awesome charity Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) which helps people seeking asylum in Australia with everything difficult about making a new life in Australia when you have nothing, qualify for minimal government support and are unable to work.
Communitees have also brought people together when they've seen each other wearing one on the street, in an airport, or in many cases, on a video call!
Thank you to all the people who've purchased a Communitees tee. I hope you like the thing it says and feel good about helping an essential charity.
